Vande Bharat Express Delhi-Katra train flagged off by Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express train from New Delhi railway station. This was the second Vande Bharat Express runs between Delhi and Katra. The first Vande Bharat Express train runs between Delhi and Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The maximum speed of Vande Bharat Express is 130 km/hour and will cover the distance in 8hours, reducing the travel time by 4 hours.


Jaipur, Jodhpur, Durgapura emerge top three ranking railway stations

Three railway stations in Rajasthan bagged top honors in the railways’ cleanliness survey unveiled by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Durgapura were the top three ranking railway stations among 720 stations. Andheri, Virar and Naigaon railway stations were the top three among 109 suburban stations.
North Western Railway followed by South East Central Railway and East Central Railway are the top three railway zones. Railways have been conducting third party audit and cleanliness ranking of 407 major stations annually since 2016. This year the survey was expanded to include 720 stations and suburban stations were also included for the first time.


Naveen Patnaik announces ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative for transparency in governance

In a bid to ensure transparency in governance, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the “Mo Sarkar” initiative during the Independence Day celebration in the state. The new initiative will commence from October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.


ISRO to celebrate ‘World Space Week’ from Oct 4-10

As a part of World Space Week program, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has joined hands with seven academic institutions across Karnataka to spread information and knowledge about the benefits of space science and technologies to the student community. The program will start on October 4 and will continue till October 10. Under the new initiative, the chief minister and other ministers will call common citizens to seek their feedback on the kind of response and service they received when they visited the government facilities.


Chhattisgarh government to start five new schemes on Gandhi Jayanti

Chhattisgarh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is set to launch five new schemes on October 2 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The schemes are:
  • Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyaan (Chief Minister Nutrition Scheme)
    To provide fresh and nutritious food to malnourished children and anaemic women with the help of panchayats and self-help groups.
  • Mukhyamantri Haat Bazaar Clinic Yojana (Chief Minister Market Clinic Scheme)
    teams of the health department will visit local haat-bazaars to give health facilities in remote tribal and forest areas of the state.
  • Mukhyamantri Shahariya slum Swasthya Yojana (Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme)
    To provide mobile medical teams in urban slums to cater to health care needs of over 7,80,000 people.
  • Universal PDS scheme
    Under this scheme, families falling in the general category (taxpayers and non-taxpayers) will also be eligible for food grains.
  • Mukhyamantri ward Karyalaya (Chief Minister Ward Offices)
    To provide immediate availability of citizen services and facilities to people according to their demands such as complaints related to cleanliness, environment, street lights, road maintenance, drain cleaning and water supply.


Government launches Prakash portal to improve coal supply to power plants

The government launched a web portal, Prakash, with a view to improving coordination between the power, coal and railway ministries to ensure coal supplies to power plants. The portal was jointly launched by power minister RK Singh and coal minister Pralhad Joshi. In line with the government’s predisposition for acronyms, Prakash stands for ‘Power Rail Koyla Availability through Supply Harmony’.

Kapil Dev resigns as Cricket Advisory Committee chairman

Former India captain, Kapil Dev, who was the chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has stepped down from the role. He has sent his resignation to Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai and BCCI CEO, Rahul Johri. Kapil, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy were named in the Cricket Advisory Committee to select the chief coach for the Indian team. On 29th September, former India women’s team captain Shantha Rangaswamy had resigned from the three-member ad-hoc committee.


Tata Communications names Amur Lakshminarayanan as MD, Group CEO designate

Sachin Tendulkar gets the most effective Swachhata Ambassador award

President Ram Nath Kovind presented the most effective Swachchta Ambassador award to cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in fifth edition of the Safaigiri Awards for utilizing his popularity and fame to ensure India achieves its goal of a Swachh Bharat on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Sachin Tendulkar was nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of India’s swachhata ambassadors’ in 2014. After accepting his nomination, Tendulkar’s first campaign was cleaning up a locality near his home in Mumbai.


Ben Stokes Wins PCA Players’ Player of Year Award

All-rounder Ben Stokes, who played a crucial role in England’s maiden World Cup win, has been voted Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) player of the year. England spinner Sophie Ecclestone won the Women’s Player of the Summer for the second time while Tom Banton was awarded the Young Player of the Year. Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad were also named the ODI and Test player of the year respectively.
